  1. I disagree with no homework because I think that kids need the extra practice. Students choose not to do homework, then come to school the next day and are completely lost. A lot of kids miss important facts and details in the homework they didn’t do, teachers give out the homework for us to have practice and get the stuff done that we didn’t have time to do in class.

  2. I agree with no homework, but at the same time I think there should be homework. I agree with no homework because students have to wake up early everyday then go to school and do work for 7 hours, and then it is ridiculous to go home and do even more school work. Also, people also have after school activities like sports and clubs that also take up time. I also agree with having homework because a lot of the times people need extra practice, and the extra practice helps to fully understand the subject. Homework should be optional, but still a thing. Homework can often help students understand and help with time management. Homework can be very stressful and hard, but it can help a student becomes a better learner. At the same time homework is sometimes too much.

  3. I agree with not having any homework to do at all. Homework is not ‘Necessary’ If the student does not want to do homework, but understands the lesson and the things he/she was taught, then why assign it to them? Rather than No Homework, schools should implement a Option to do homework or not to do homework. This way students who WANT the extra help, or practice can do this, and the student’s who do not want the practice, don't have to do the assigned work. This does come with a cons, including the removal of Time Management, Homework does help students with managing time, and getting them ready for real world situations. And another is the loss of extra practice, students will not be able to learn more, or practice extra. However, this could vary from person to person and opinions are different. In my opinion, Homework should be given as an option, or not at all.

  4. I agree with having no homework or having homework be optional. I say that homework should be optional because if kids feel they need the extra work to help them understand or if they just want it for practice then they can do it. Or if the kid feels like they understand the assignment and don't need any extra help then they have the option to not do it. Or for example maybe a kid had a super busy day and they have to do their homework at like 10 o'clock at night then they are super tired and the homework won't make any sense anyways and they will not benefit from it at all plus they will be tired and not pay attention at school the next day. If homework is optional then kids who feel they benefit from it can do it and kids who feel like its a waste of time don't have to. It´s a win-win situation.

  5. Although at times, homework is very overwhelming, it is still necessary. Homework helps students learn time management and study skills. My solution to students feeling overwhelmed and angry is to give homework in moderation, and when it is truly necessary. If the homework assigned one night is irrelevant and not related to their current work, the teacher should either assign something else, or not assign it at all. I believe, weekends are for regeneration and growth, and homework interrupts that, especially when teachers decide to assign extra since the student has more time to do it. Overall, if teachers assign less homework and give their kids the weekends free, the student’s will still grasp the concept time management, and will also learn to study individually.

  6. I agree that students in high should not have to have homework, it is just simply unneeded. There is no point in going home after school and doing work that you were just doing in class and usually I always have questions but I can't ask those when i'm at home. Also I play football so when I leave school I go to that every day and most of the time I get home around 6 or later and at that point I am tired so I relax and by the time I finish my homework it it's late at night and I am tired the next day at school. My final point is that seriously homework is just giving us extra work that is unneeded when we do the exact same thing at school, and most of the time homework is graded by correctness which doesn't make sense because maybe we had questions. Pretty much homework is just completely useless and takes time out of our life.

  7. I think that having homework is a necessity, and should be mandatory for all schools. Schools objective should be focused on making students successful, and smart. Not is their cheerful, and pleased. If students become intelligent, they could soon help our economy. Though, it all starts with homework. Schools should teach their students that they don’t always get what they want, and that the world is not fair. Although, I believe that there should not be any homework over the weekend. That should be the time for students to recover, so they can be ready for school again on Monday. Homework will improve students and our country in varieties of ways.

  8. I strongly agree with no homework. I’ve never benefitted from homework to my knowledge but it’s caused plenty of headaches. If a teacher can trust a student to come in early or stay late to get the help they need then they can trust a student to do homework until they understand the subject.

  9. I agree and disagree.I agree with no homework because middle school and high school kids do extracurricular activities after school till 6 or later and they just want to eat and sleep when they get home. Also a lot of homework is busy work so kids don't want to do it because it would be useless later on. I disagree with no homework because homework and being able so study is extremely beneficial later in life because you get much more than middle school. Also you might not get the topic and need extra practice with the topic so you are not completely don't know what is going on the next day. I think a solution to this homework policy would be to make a study hall so they get the work done during school hours or they could make most homework assignments optional.

  10. I agree and don’t agree with the thought of not having homework. I agree that we shouldn’t have homework because when we get home, that should be our time to have with family or do the things we want to do. We go to school five days a week so I think that school time is school time and personal time is personal time. It might be a little different now with technology, but when we are at home, we are not able to have the one on one time with the teacher we sometimes need. I also do not agree with not having homework. I think homework helps us with understanding a certain topic we learned in class. It is extra practice and it helps prepare us for the future, or college. Although I do agree with having homework, I think there should be a limit.

  11. I agree with no homework or at least little homework because it just stresses everybody out especially the people with after school sports like myself. Continuing I think that a lot of teachers give out way too much homework that is very unnecessary, for example I once spent my entire night doing homework non stop and I ended getting very tired the next day and it just continues over and over. Another reason is that we have to wake up very early which does not help us and all our homework.

  12. I agree with this article. Homework can have many pros and cons. I like doing homework, because if you don’t get a concept that they went over in class you can practice with you homework. That is what homework is for. I think that homework should be optional. But it is only useful for the people who are going to do it. It is worth it in the end even if we don’t see it. In college you have multiple books and other materials to read. Ranging from about 50-100 pages a night or even more. Harris Cooper commented and said, “There is only a modest correlation between homework completion and academic success for middle school children, but the connection between the two becomes much stronger in high school. “ I think the teachers should choose on what our homework is, because later in our future the homework might not even matter. Depending on what the homework is about, they should put in different grades. Like if the homework is hard and we get it all wrong the teachers should just put in a completion grade for everyone. Homework is very important in our everyday lives even if we don’t see it. It is worth it in the end.

  13. Homework or No Homework

I agree and disagree with the issue of having homework or not. I agree with having homework because if there is a lesson you don’t understand you can have extra practice when you go home to try and understand the lesson better if you didn't understand it earlier in the day. Also it is going to prepare you for the future. Although homework is an issue for kids it teaches them a good lesson on time management and it prepares for for college and the future. I disagree with having homework because kids go to school and pay schools to learn at school not after school. If kids don't understand the material taught to them in school they can ask questions in school and get more help from a teacher. Homework takes a lot of time when kids have after school extra curricular activities and don't have time to spend with family. I think the issue to fix all for this is to have no homework on the weekends because it should be kept for spending time with family and not worrying about school work. For week days people should have less homework than usual.

  14. I agree that we shouldn’t have homework but to a point. We should have minimal homework because people are tired after school a lot of times and then don’t do well on the homework which hurts their grade. Also people have activities after school and get home late with still having tons of homework and get to bed very late because of it and then are tired the next day. Another reason is that when people don’t do homework it brings their grade down. However there are times when there should be homework like study guides or if it has to do with something in class the next day but don’t give us hours of homework.

  15. I think that we should still have homework, or make it optional at least. The amount of homework that students have these days, is crazy. A lot of us have sports after school and don't get home until later that evening. I sometimes have 30 minutes of homework, or it could go to at least 2 hours. When I say we should still have homework but maybe make it optional I mean that if the student gets the topic and is on top of it, they maybe don't have to do it. It is their own fault if they do not do the optional homework, they won't get the credit. Depending on what the homework is about the teachers should put in the different grades. If the homework is hard and the student failed the assignment, they should put the grade in for a completion grade for doing it.

  16. I agree with not having homework because it can be bad on peoples grades.Homework being optional would be the best choice because most people don't do their homework and it screws up their grade. I also feel like they could make homework count less

  17. I think homework should be optional because homework helps with lessons that students don’t understand. For example, if a class has a lesson, most students would think it’s easy therefore making them rush through but in the end having to fail it. For students who don’t understand, they take time to do the homework and get better grades. Also, it should be optional because many students have sports or music lessons after school and don’t get home till late that they don’t have time to do any.

  18. I strongly agree that students should have no homework. With no homework students will have more free time with this free time kids can go in and talk to the teacher. If students had more time with less homework and more time to talk to teachers then they can understand and learn the concept better than with the homework. Also with the free time kids can get more sleep and be more active in class if they are more active in class there is no need to have homework because they are doing it in class. If they have more time then they can also have enjoyable memories.

  19. I believe schools should not require homework because the students who understand the concept will become bored with the homework very quickly and the would think it is pointless because they understand the concept fully. I don't think it should be required but i also don't think it should not be offered for the students who need extra help with a concert or need to solidify the topic in their head.

  20. I disagree with no homework because homework allows students to have extra practice outside of the school and thoroughly comprehend what they are learning. I can see why students do not want homework because some are very busy. Many of the students have a very busy life outside of school (sports, clubs, activities, etc.) and they do not have enough time to do their homework or they do it and don’t get sufficient hours of sleep to be able to learn the next day. I can also see why homework is good because it will prepare kids for their future. When someone does their homework they are practicing good time management that will be very useful in college. Harris Cooper said in a Chicago Tribune article, “Homework teaches children study and time-management skills.” this supports not having homework because it will allow students to develop better skills before they go to college.

  22. I disagree wit No Homework because it is not preparing you for the future in high School, College, Grad school, and when you have a job. If a middle school didn’t doesn’t give homework, once you graduate middle school then you get a lot more homework and all of a suddenly all of those kids don’t know how to do homework and study properly and they are going to have a hard time in highschool. It is the same way with high school to college. When you get out of college and go into a job you might not have homework but you still need to do stuff when you get home and homework in middle school teaches you responsibility and time management. I am not saying everybody needs 2 hours of homework, high school is stressful and homework just adds to that so people should have 30 minutes of homework so it doesn’t take up all of your time but it still teaches study skills and responsibility.

  23. It never made sense to me to go home and do more work. Whilst I despise going to my own house and sitting down to do MORE school, I know that it genuinely is good for me. If I wasn't doing homework or homework was optional, then I wouldn't be learning responsible habits. But, currently, the system is setup for failure in the fact that if you didn't do it, and there's no way to incentivize people to, then you're graded down. Repeated offenses would kill your grade. In an ideal world, everyone would pull their weight and do it. I have a hard time doing it all sometimes, which leads to my next point. If we could formulate a system where everyone would do it, there is an ideal amount and people do it for enrichment rather than grade, we could improve the system tenfold. Any quality solution to this plague would take years to formulate due to the fact that most current solutions would require a perfect world. In conclusion, I just think that the system needs to change.

  24. I agree that we should not have homework because it is wasting our valuable time. If we didn't have homework we would appreciate and value the teachers time during class and actually work. A pro for it is that we are not prepared for as many tests. When you have a real job you won't be taking work home with you every night, of course you will have nights when you will need to take it home. Most the time i don't even do the homework so it would really help if i didn't have an extra thing to worry about.

  25. I agree with no homework for many reasons. It doesn’t really help for most classes. Sometimes it takes hours to finish homework. The homework should be optional. If you think you are fine you can not do it then. It would be a review.

  26. I think that we should still have homework. I don’t think we should have 50 pounds of homework though. In the article, “Schools Lesson Plan: No More Homework” it says “Homework teaches children study and time management skills. All kids should be doing homework.” All kids should be taught time management skills. Doing homework helps you learn more about the topic you are learning about in class. Would you really wanna give up that time? Yeah, yeah you probably would love too but would you rather stay confused or do your homework? Homework is usually just going over what you learned in class, but it’s giving you a better understanding. YOu may think that homework is a waste of time but truly it’s not. We should at least have less homework that’s true. A lot of homework doesn’t make sense because kids do have other things going on in their lives. Homework also helps you get ready for a test or quiz that may be coming up. SOme pros for having homework a couple of days a week is that you learn the material better than you did. Homework is a great time to help you get new skills like how to use your time wisely cause i'm pretty sure you wouldn’t want to be doing it at the middle of the night. The cons of this is people still won’t do their homework even though there barely is any.

  27. I agree with the fact that homework should be optional. First of all, most homework is extra practice to solidify the student’s understanding. Some kids need it, some kids don’t. That’s why it should be optional because if kids choose to seek the help or extra practice, they can do the homework but if kids pay attention in class and don’t need the practice, they shouldn’t be grading on doing homework. Second of all, it would be the student's responsibility if they wanted to do extra practice. This would show responsibility because the student would self-analyze their abilities and advocate for them by getting extra practice or homework.

  28. I agree with no homework because one of the arguments for the cons was that some of the student were not getting the information they needed from their education but having the homework optional allows the student to choose their success leaving the responsibility up to the student, another reason that was stated in the article was that it took up too much of a student time thus allowing them to do more of the things they like and also leaves time for extracurricular activities furthering their education.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I believe that their needs to be a balance between having homework or not having homework. Homework is an effective way to receive extra practice if you don’t understand a lesson. However, I think there are more important lessons to learn in life than solving math questions. Students should have a life outside of their school life and also a time to enjoy being a kid/ teen. I think that homework is important in ensuring that topics are understood, but it becomes a problem when it takes over students after school lives. In school, especially high school, we are taught that it’s important for students to take control of their own education. By trusting students to take the initiative of their education, I think they can also be trusted to balance their understanding of homework.
